Some Helpful Questions & Answers For an Interview:
Q. Tell me something about yourself.
This is the first question, you can expect during any interview you face. This usually is a question to start the communication and set the base for an interview. You can answer this question by providing some information about your name, educational qualification, work experience, technologies you have worked upon & family background.
Example: My name is XYZ, I belong from Mayur Vihar, Delhi. I have done my schooling from XYZ School and my graduation from Delhi University. As far as my experience is concerned, I worked for XYZ Company for 2 years and then worked with ABC Company for 1 year. I have a good knowledge of computer hardware and programming. There are five members in my family, my parents, my brother and a sister along with me.
Q. Why do you want to leave your current job?
You may want to leave your present job for any reason but make sure that you do not talk bad about your company, seniors or job. It reflects your complaining attitude so do not follow that.
Here you would need to give a good reason for e.g. “I think, I have grown up with my last employer as much as I could. I want to grow further and I believe that is possible with a new employer.” or "it is a long time that I am working in night shift in BPO and now I am looking for a change since I have to give time to my family as well."
Q. Why do you consider yourself a suitable candidate for this job?
To answer this question, it is important that you research the requirements of the position in a brief way and match them with the skills you have.
Example: if the position requires leadership qualities with good knowledge of team handling, you may tell an interviewer about your skills and examples of handing the team in past.
Fresher can talk about their technical skills, ability to learn and grasp things quickly as an answer.
Q. What do you know about our company/this sector?
You would need to research about the company and its business before appearing for an interview. Also, get some information about the workflows that they follow including the technologies they work upon. It is not mandatory to know everything inside out but having a good idea about the company makes you eligible for the position.
Example: I see that this company or this sector does a lot of projects based on Open Source platforms like Magento, & Joomla which is quite interesting and I have a similar kind of experience. OR I am glad to know about this company as it is an e-commerce company and it is growing fast. Mr. ABC & Mr. XYZ are founders of this company and I last 2 years this company has added almost 1000 employees which show the growth prospects for an employee.
Q. Don’t you agree, you are overqualified for this position/post?
I possess more degrees than you require for this position/post. However, I believe that I grow every day with my experiences when I interact with my staff, customers, and superiors. Basically, the learning process continues throughout the life – I don’t think that I am over qualified.
Q. There is some gap in your work history. Why?
I was feeling exhausted after years of non-stop work. So, I decided to take a break and spend some time with my family on a vacation. I am happy to have returned fully recharged. I assure you that it won't make any effect to my work efficiency.
Q. You seem to be getting a good salary. Will you be OK in less salary package?
I believe that at one point of time in career salary becomes secondary and self-actualization becomes more important. While taking up any new job, it will be my priority to ensure that the work culture, chances to contribute and growth are sufficient along with the money I am paid. I also believe that any good company who cares about its employees ensures that they are paid well.
Q. Would you like to ask anything with us?
For this job profile, I would like to know about the career growth I can expect being with this company. I am quite an ambitious person and this information will be helpful for me.
Q. How would you motivate your team members?
Motivation is the best practice to reach the goals. The motivation may relate to financial terms, incentives, and growth perspective. I will tell my team members about the factors that are helpful for their growth to motivate them. I will also listen to their concerns so that I could resolve the concerns as soon as possible and help them working without any stress.
Q. What are your strengths?
It is important to study the requirements of the position before you go for the interview. Please list out your strengths and offer the ones that the position require.
For Example: If you have an interview for the position of a Team Lead – you should talk about your team handling abilities, motivational skills, your team management skills etc.
Q. What are your weaknesses?
Please be careful while answering this question. Do not show any weakness which will directly affect your selection but at the same time saying that you do not have any weakness will not be right too.
Everyone has weaknesses, so it is not bad for you to have a weakness.
The best way to answer this question will be to turn one of your strengths as a weakness and say that others accuse you of having this weakness but you think it is important to work in this manner. For e.g.: “My colleagues accuse me of paying too much attention to syntax but I believe it is important when you are writing the code to avoid spending too much time on finding and fixing the bugs later on.”
Another way to answer this question is to offer a totally unrelated weakness for e.g. “I have been staying alone for so many years now but I still can’t cook independently.” or "I can concentrate on one work at a time" as a weakness.
Q.As per your resume, you do not have all the experience that we need for this position?
It is not possible for a candidate to have all the experience an employer requires. Even if you match yourself up to the expectations on a technical front, there will be some difference in the work environment. And, it is absolutely fine.
The best way to deal with this question is to analyses the requirements of the position well and match your skills as close to them as possible. If something is still left untouched, offer your quick grasping power and ability to learn quickly as a solution & back it up with an example from the past.
Q. What are the motivational factors for you?
To answer this question, you can mention things like new challenges, good work environment, and growth opportunities.
Q. Will you be able to work in night shifts or over the weekends?
Answer this question taking into consideration what is suitable for you. Agree to work in night shifts, only if you can really do the night shifts.
